EDGE

The EDGE is a branch of the Life Teen Youth Ministry. The EDGE is a Catholic middle school youth ministry experience created for early adolescents in grades, six, seven, and eight. The program is designed to meet the educational, spiritual, emotional, and social needs of young adolescents.  More than 600 Parishes worldwide participate in the EDGE Program. Kids are always welcomed and encouraged to bring their friends.

Why EDGE?

Middle School and Junior High youth have unique challenges that the Catholic Church must meet, or we run the risk of spiritually losing them.  Early adolescence is a difficult and critical time in a person’s life.  The middle school years begin the process of transforming a child into an adult.  The needs of middle school youth in a youth ministry program are quite different from children in Christian Formation and high school teenagers in Life Teen.  They are literally caught on… The Edge.   During middle school, many youth have a difficult time living out their faith.  Many may know what is right but struggle to live it out in their day to day lives.

Middle School may be one of the last opportunities we have to positively impact and assist a child in his or her educational, spiritual, emotional, and social development.  The EDGE provides early adolescents the opportunity to experience Jesus on their level.  Middle school youngsters need the Catholic Church’s assistance now to help guide them spiritually, through this challenging time in their life.  Just as with our high school teens in Life Teen, as Church it is our responsibility to see to it that our middle school kids experience Christ in an exciting and dynamic program that challenges them and invites them to walk with Jesus, as well as being in tune with their unique needs.

Goals of EDGE

1. To foster a transforming spiritual experience of Jesus through the liturgy, which will allow early adolescents to experience the Word of God and the Eucharist in a deeper and more profound way.

2. To create a positive experience of the Catholic Church for early adolescents.

3.
To assist middle school youngsters in gaining an understanding and appreciation of what the Catholic church teaches and believes.

4.
To incorporate the Catholic Church’s vision of social justice and peace into the spiritual life of pre-adolescents.

5.
To develop an identity in middle school youth and in the Edge ministry as being a vital and visual presence within the parish community.

Components of the EDGE

Similiar to the Life Teen Model there are four main components to the EDGE Middle School Ministry.

1.  The Holy Mass

-T3 Cards

The T3 card serves multiple puposes and are dropped in the collection basket during the offertory. The offertory is such an important part of the mass.  This is the time where eveyone in the community brings forth and places upon the altar all that they want to “offer God” so that in communion we can pray for each others needs.

T3 Cards stand for Time, Talent, and Treasure.  As youth of the church we want you to be just as involved as everyone else.  Your offering is equally as important. By filling out what you have done or given of time (volunteering, helping family member, community service etc.), talent (helping during mass, lector, choir, altar servers etc.) or even  some have even dropping a dollar ot two as your treasure, you become an active member of this parish community.

The back of the card is used for prayer intentions.  If on any given week you have something you want us to pray for or offer up you can write it on the back of the card.  A basket will be placed on the altar with the cards so that the community can pray for those intentions as well.

2.  EDGE Nights

3.  Service & Community Activities

4.  Parent Component

The EDGE Nights are run in the same format as the mass; Gather, Proclaim, Break, and Send.
