Who are Core Members
Core members are adults who choose to respond to their baptismal call by serving young people. The Life Teen Program relies heavily on the time and talents of adults within the parish community, men and women who truly care about our youth, and who are selfless enough to make sacrifices that ensure that our young people come to know God through the love of Christ and the truth of the Sacraments.
Who can serve as a Core Member? There is not any one particular person who fits this role. Any one who is willing to serve Christ and strives for holiness is the perfect Core Member. One of the things that make a strong Core team and a thriving youth ministry program is the diversity of its members and team. Everyone brings something to the table, whether young or old, married or single, new to the Church and her teachings or a veteran Church member. We are looking for servant hearts.
Core members are the back bone of the youth ministry and ultimately lead teens closer to Christ.
“I invite you all to become bearers of the joyful proclamation especially by being closer to young people. Bring them Christ, give them the Gospel in all its freshness as good news, ever new and always young.” (Pope John Paul II)
Core Responsibilities
There are three main areas of commitment: to God, to the teens, and to the program.
Commitment to God
A Core member must first and foremost have a commitment to God, the Church, and their spiritual growth. They need to have an active prayer life, frequent the Sacraments, and continue to grow in their understanding of the Church and her teachings. Core Members do not need to be perfect, but they do need to be striving for holiness.
Commitment to the teens
This ministry demands a willingness to dive into the lives of young people. A Core team member must be involved in relational ministry with the teen – willing to connect with teens not only socially but spiritually as well. This commitment lies at the heart of everything we are at Life Teen.
Commitment to St. Mary’s Life Teen
Finally it is important that Core members work as a team with the youth ministers to provide quality ministry to teens. This includes being present on Sunday’s at Mass, helping to plan Life & EDGE Nights and retreats, and being present and involved with other activities.
How Can I Help?
There are various ways a Core Member can help out with the youth ministry program. Being a Core Member does require a significant time commitment. However, please do not let that stop you from joining our team. We do realize that many of us simply cannot give as much time as others. We have broken up the different areas of the ministry into several support teams. Some of these teams require more time than others. We ask that you pray about the various support teams below and ask God if he may be calling you to participate in some way.
Saint Charles
The Patron Saint of Catechists -Also referred to as Core Members. This team would consist of parents who would help facilitate our small groups during our Life Nights. This support team would involve the biggest time commitment, it is one of the most important components of our ministry. The Core team is involved in almost every aspect of our ministry. Check out our core page for more information.
Saint Peter
Known as the Gatekeeper -This support team will consist of people within the community and parents who are willing to come in an hour prior to our Life Night and help setup our environment. Every Life Night and EDGE Night has a theme that requires us to setup an environment. The environment usually helps set the tone for the night, gets the point of the night across, and gets teens excited about the evening.
Saint Martha
The Patron Saint of Cooks – This team will help coordinate and prepare snacks for our Life Nights, EDGE Nights, Retreats, and various other events.
Saint Joseph
The Patron Saint of Parents – We are looking for parents and people from out community to help assist with Service Projects. This team would be in charge of finding community service opportunities and projects for the teens in our program. This team would als be available to monitor and chaperone the teens at the various community service events.
Saint Vivian
Patroness of Parish – This team will assist in planning and organizing social events for the teens in our youth ministry program, which will help build community within our parish and Life Teen Community.
Saint Christopher
The Patron Saint of Safe Travel – This team will help with transportation. Helping transport from the parish center to various events throughout the community
Guardian Angels
Prayer Warriors – This team is vital and extremely important to the success of this program and everything we do. This team will meet on a regular basis to pray for our program, for our teens, for the various events within the program, for our community, and that Christ always remains at the center of this program and in our every day lives.
Training
Training and maintaining a healthy (both spiritually and physically) Core Team is extremely important to us here at St. Mary’s. We are dedicated to providing ongoing spiritual and catechetical formation and relational ministry training.
We do require that all members have a CORI check and child safety training. All training is provided at the St. Mary’s Parish Center.
We will continuouslypost new and upcoming training and events for Core Members through out the year. Click on our Existing Core Member Link above or below to find out more.
